Toni's Sun Valley Ice Cream Co. - Circus Animal
This totally tastes like those cookies
I really want to like this ice cream. Circus animals are delicious, and I love the idea of eating them in a socially acceptable way beyond the age of 12. The flavor was right on par. This stuff totally tastes like those delicious Mother’s cookies from my childhood camping experiences.
The problem happened in the texture. It was just too icy to overcome.
As a bonus, when I finished eating my scoop, the roof of my mouth was coated in that familiar waxy feeling. The one that assures me that whatever I just ate was a bizarre mix of food and plastic.
Overall rating: 3/5
Flavor: 3/5
Toni’s really nailed the circus animal flavor, but I’m pretty sure that’s just because there are actual Mother’s Circus Animals in the ice cream. The flavor of the ice cream itself is pretty generic.
Texture: 2/5
Just really icy. What I’d expect from one of those DIY ice cream balls.
Mix-ins: 4/5
The cookie pieces are pretty small, which made for nice distribution bite-to-bite. I wish there were just a few more cookies and fewer sprinkles. It’s a real sprinkle fest in there. You’re sure to get a mouthful in every bite.
The last word:
This was my first experience with the brand, so I think there’s a chance this was a fluke for Toni’s. Or perhaps I got a pint that a customer took on a 2-hour cart ride around the store before putting back in the freezer. I’ll be sure to try them again and post an update.
As it stands, I would only buy this again if I was assigned to bring ice cream to a Circus Animal themed party. I do appreciate that it’s made locally, and I will enjoy the rest of this pint.
